World Food Safety Day is celebrated every year on 7th June. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make those people aware about food security, who suffer from serious diseases due to the consumption of spoiled food. It is to be ensured that everyone has access to safe and nutritious food in abundance. The theme for this year 2021 is “Safe Food Today for a Healthy Tomorrow“.
On this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced to give free ration to 80 crore poor peoples till Diwali. But still the needy are not getting ration. On the basis of the survey of the year 2011, the center has fixed the quota of the state and district. Whereas, lakhs of families increased in 10 years. Meaning 15-16 lakh people in Jharkhand will have to be linked to the scheme.
Corona‘s third wave is being feared, in which children are being said to be more affected. Preparations are underway to increase ICU beds for children. But, this will not work. Because, when poor children will not get food grains, then it will be a big challenge to prevent children from getting affected in the third wave. On the other hand, arrangements should be made for routine checkups in Anganwadi. At the same time, pulses and oil should also be added along with rice-wheat in PDS. The amount of grain per person at five kg is quite low. Must be at least 14 kg. Therefore, the amount of grain should also be increased.
In view of the quota given by the Center Government and the increasing population, Jharkhand State Food Security Scheme has been started. In this, food grains are being provided to about 3.50 lakh families. There has been a relief from this scheme. But, it is insufficient. 3.50 lakh applications are pending for making ration card. Despite being pending for several months, they are not being given the card.
