Tapovan is another prime attraction in Deoghar, for tourists and pilgrims because of its natural beauty and spiritual significance. Tapovan is basically a series of caves and hills that are located 10 Km away from Deoghar, Jharkhand.
The word ‘Tapovan‘ means forest of meditation and in the past, it was a meditation spot (Tapobhumi) for the Nagas (sadhus). Thus, it has been named Tapovan.
Tapovan is also popular trekking and picnic spot for locals. You can reach the top of the hill approx 30 mins by stairs. As you climb the stairs, you will see several temples and caves at different heights on the Tapovan parvat. On the hilltop, you can get a panoramic view of the landscape. It will be a journey full of adventure.
On the top of the hill, There is a temple of Shiva called Taponath Mahadeva Mandir. It is one of the holy tourist places in Jharkhand. A reservoir at the hill end. The name is Sita Kund because it’s said that Sita used to take bathe while living in the forest. It is also believed that Sri Balananda Brahmachari obtained Siddhi (success through penance) here. And Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari, Tapovan Hill, Tapovan Hill Deoghar, Jharkhand Tourism, Tourist Places in Jharkhand, Tourist Places in Deoghar, Tapovan Cave Deoghar, Tapovan Parvat Deoghar, Tapovan Temple Deoghar, Taponath Mahadeva Mandir, Sita Kunda Deoghara disciple of Sri Balananda Brahmachari also used to come here for penance.
As per the mythology saint, Valmiki came here for convulsion. It is also said that Ravana came here for meditation, and while he was doing penance, the gods instructed Hanuman to break Ravan’s meditation. Hanuman jumped to the hill and burst the rocks of the hill. There is a Hanuman temple in the middle of that stone crack. On the inner surface of the crack, you can see a portrait of Hanuman. This is an impressive feat as it is practically impossible to insert a paintbrush in the gap and draw anything.
There are many Hanumans on Tapovan hill Deoghar. You have to be cautious and careful from the Hanuman. Here trained monkeys are very desperate; they can take away your small items such as sun-glass, cameras, and mobile. When you climb up by stairs, you see various temples and caves, the calamity of the locals like guides, shopkeepers, puja merchants, Hanuman, food vendors, etc.
