Vaccination campaigns against Corona continue rapidly across the country. But in the meantime, after rising infection, a question is arising in the minds of people that after taking the last vaccine, how long people are safe from infection.
This question was answered by Randeep Guleria, director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He told, Corona vaccine may be able to give complete protection from infection for 8 to 10 months. He also said that no major side effects of the vaccine have been revealed.
Guleria said in an event organized by IPS (Central) Association, Corona vaccine can give complete protection from infection for 8 to 10 months and maybe even longer. He said that the biggest reason for the upsurge in cases is that people feel that the epidemic is over and they are not following the rules of prevention from Corona.
The officer said, “There are many reasons for the increase in infection, but the main reason is that there has been a change in the attitude of the people and they feel that the corona virus has been eradicated“. People should still postpone non-essential travel for some more time.
Niti Aayog member (health) VK Paul said that the chain of infection has to be stopped and vaccine is a tool for this, but another is prevention and surveillance strategy. He said, non-adherence to Corona standards and negligence is the main reason for the boom.
In response to a question about vaccinating more people, Paul said that this vaccine issue is limited and that is why priority has been set. He said, if we had an unlimited supply, we would have started vaccination for everyone. This is why vaccines are not being given to everyone. Due to this reason, most of the countries of the world are not able to move ahead of the priority group.
The Niti Aayog member also said that the highest death rate was seen in people with old age. He said, these people should not delay in getting the vaccine. Hence the message is that they need it more than others. This is why they have been given priority in giving Corona vaccines.
Talking about the effectiveness of the available corona vaccines – covaccine and covishield, Guleria said, “If we look at both vaccines, they produce the same antibodies and are very strong.” We should have the vaccines available to us as both vaccines are equally effective in terms of efficacy and long-term safety. So far more than 40 million people have been vaccinated in the country.
